Conference travel:
Ambar Yudell - KINES
Plans for Award: Ambar has garnered the opportunity to present a first-author abstract at the 2008
American College of Sports Medicine Annual Meeting. This experience will prepare Ambar for graduate study in
Exercise Physiology this fall
Leah Okner - KINES
Plans for Award: Leah will use her AHS Student Career Development & Leadership Award to attend
fitness conferences and renew her certifications as both a NASM Certified Personal Trainer and a Turbo Kickboxing
Group Fitness Instructor
Linda Mandolini-Trummel - RST
Plans for Award: Linda will use her AHS Student Career Development & Leadership Award to
subsidize her expenses from a February SMWW Sports Conference. At this conference Linda had the opportunity to
network with professionals in the field and the conference has inspired her to pursue a career in team
operations for a professional football team
Melissa Fortin - RST
Plans for Award: Melissa has earned Hockey Accreditation through the Professional Skaters
Association (PSA). The AHS Student Career Development & Leadership Award will help fund Melissa's expenses
so that she can attend the annual PSA Conference and complete two oral rating exams. Melissa hopes to become
one of the finest skating coaches throughout Central Illinois and one-day throughout the Midwest
Membership in Prof. Orgs.
Sari Schy - CHLH
Plans for Award: Sari plans to use her AHS Student Career Development & Leadership
Award to obtain certification as a Health Education Specialist. This certification will make Sari more
marketable in the field of Public Health
Timothy Presecky - CHLH
Plans for Award: Timothy plans to use his AHS Student Career Development & Leadership
Award to renew his membership with the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM). Being a member
of NASSM has exposed Timothy to current issues in the field and has provided him with the opportunity to
network extensively. Timothy's renewed membership in this professional organization will demonstrate to
employers his commitment to the field
Elizabeth Lehnert - KINES
Plans for Award: Elizabeth plans to use her AHS Student Career Development & Leadership
Award to join the American College of Sports Medicine's Alliance of Health and Fitness Professionals
(ACSM). Elizabeth hopes to utilize her membership with the ACSM to become a certified personal trainer
Study Abroad:
Alyssa Fuggiti - SHS
Plans for Award: Travelling to Sydney, Australia as an intern studying Speech and
Hearing Sciences Alyssa hopes to learn about Australian culture and how Australians view those with
speech and hearing impairments
Jennifer Eastin - CHLH
Plans for Award: Travelling to Aberdeen, Scotland as part of a British Exchange
Program. During her stay Jennifer hopes to gain a thorough understanding of Scotland's universal
healthcare system
Johanna Contreras - RST
Plans for Award: Travelling to Atenas, Costa Rica through a program entitled "Sustaining
Tropical Ecosystems: Biodiversity, Conservation and Development." This study abroad experience will afford
Johanna the opportunity to gain practical experience in her field and to learn about sustainable tourism
planning
