The AHS Annual Fund: Helping Students Succeed In and Out of the Classroom

Employers continue to tell us that extracurricular experiences combined with a strong academic foundation are key to the ultimate success of our students in the workplace. The College of Applied Health Sciences has a long-standing tradition of encouraging out-of-classroom activities and with your help these opportunities will be enhanced even more. To expand and further strengthen these opportunities, the AHS Career Development and Leadership Awards Program, supported solely through the Annual Fund, has been established. Eligible students will receive financial assistance for a variety of activities, including membership fees for a professional organization in their field of study or help defraying their expenses when attending conferences or studying abroad. This new program will help ensure that deserving students have every opportunity to achieve a well-rounded educational experience at Illinois.

Your annual contributions also allow us to continue the very successful student recruiting program called the AHS Scholars Program. Funded through annual gifts and from endowed funds, this scholarship was awarded to 20 students in Fall 2005 who met stringent academic requirements. Several students remarked that without the scholarships they would not be able to attend the University of Illinois. Your gift makes a difference!

In addition to these specific initiatives, gifts from our community of alumni and friends are critically important to maintaining library acquisitions, faculty research and teaching support, and other “basics” of running the College of Applied Health Sciences. And since your Annual Fund gift is put to use in the year it is given, you make an immediate and important difference in the lives of our students.
