Undergraduate Advising Guidelines

Academic Integrity

The University has the responsibility for maintaining academic integrity so as to protect the quality of education and research on our campus and to protect those who depend upon our integrity. It is the responsibility of the student to refrain from infractions of academic integrity, from conduct that may lead to suspicion of such infractions, and from conduct that aids others in such infractions. It is the responsibility of the faculty to establish and maintain an environment that supports academic integrity. An essential part of this faculty responsibility is the enforcement of existing standards of academic integrity; where faculty do not discourage and act upon violations of which they become aware, this has the effect of undermining respect for those standards. Faculty members should provide students with a clear statement of their expectations concerning academic integrity. In these regulations, “faculty” includes an instructor or authorized staff member who supervises any academic endeavor.

Students have been given notice of this rule by virtue of its publication. Regardless of whether a student has actually read this rule, a student is charged with knowledge of it. Ignorance of a rule is never a defense.

Class Attendance

Attendance is required of all UIUC students. If a family, medical, or other emergency occur during the course of the semester, it is the student’s responsibility to contact the Emergency Dean, at 333-0500. Additionally, students should notify each of their course instructors and the student is responsible for “making up” the work missed in a satisfactory manner.

If you must withdraw from the entire semester, you must notify your academic advisor and the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs in 110 Huff Hall. You will need to complete a withdraw form complete with approval signatures from the college office, ODOS, and OAR.

Academic Standing/Grades

Grade Computation is determined in the following manner:

Academic Probation:

Should a student fall below the criteria stated in the link below, the following will occur:

All AHS students on “academic probation” will be required to complete an academic contract stating the expectation and goals for the following semester. Students will receive a letter from the Assistant Dean outlining the requirements to continue in AHS as a student on probation.  Additionally, students will be required to meet regularly throughout the semester with the AHS Program Coordinator and the student’s academic advisor. The student and the Program Coordinator will develop and academic success plan for the current semester. Failure to meet any part of the outlined conditions and expectations may result in an academic drop.

Academic Drop:

Please see the AHS Student HandbookThis icon indicates this is a PDF file for detailed information regarding an academic drop.

Late Drops/Academic Petitions

Students requesting late drops (dropping of a courses(s) after the set UIUC academic deadline) should speak with their academic advisor. Should the advisor and students feel it is in the best interest of the student to drop a course(s), then a petition, available in the Dean’s Office or the departmental advising office, should be completed. Late drops will only be considered in cases where there is strong supporting documentation that an event, occurance, etc. has had a significant impact of the student’s ability to succeed in the class.

Performing poorly in the class is not a justification for dropping a class late.

All other academic requests such as late credit/no credit options, course substitutions, or changes to a schedule should be discussed with the student’s academic advisor.
