Undergraduate Scholarships
AHS Freshman Scholars: AHS Freshman Scholars are awarded each February for the following fall. The awards are granted to the very top incoming students who have been admitted to the College of AHS. All students who apply to AHS are considered for the award. Academic achievement and merit are the basis for the award. Those receiving the award are notified by letter in February. AHS Freshman Scholars are awarded scholarships totaling 2,000-6,000 dollars upon their admission. Additionally, AHS Freshman Scholars have the opportunity to participate in the James Scholar Program their first semester, and to take a unique course, The Freshman Scholars Experience, as part of their academic curriculum.
AHS Transfer Scholarships: AHS awards up to 2 top off campus transfer students an award in the total amount of 2,000 dollars. All transfer student accepted to AHS are considered for this award. The award is based on academic merit at the previous institution. All students receiving this award are notified by letter in late spring, during the application review process.
Career Development and Leadership Awards
Peter J. and Ella Montaleone Scholarship: This scholarship was created by the Montaleone family to honor their deceased parents who were long time residents of Rockford, IL and who were strong advocates of education. The Peter J. and Ella Montaleone Scholarship is designated for academically talented students who are 1)residents of the Rockford area, and 2) currently enrolled in the College of Applied Health Sciences in their junior year. Preference is given to those who have financial need. The scholarship provides a $1,000 cash award renewable for a second year if adequate progress is being made towards the completion of his or her degree. A call for applications is sent to all AHS students each February. Additional information is available at that time.
The Floyd and Etta McAfee Award: This award was created by the family of the late Col. McAfee, a 1956 U of I graduate in physical education and Mrs. McAfee to honor their parent's commitment to education and to helping others reach their potential. Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to multicultural issues. Applicants must be undergraduate students currently enrolled in the College of Applied Health Sciences who have financial need. The scholarship provides a $500 cash award. A call for applications is sent to all AHS students each February. Additional information is available at that time.
