James Scholar Freshman Year

AHS Freshman Scholars are recognized as James Scholar participants in the Fall of freshman year.  Freshman identified as AHS Scholars are invited to participate in the Fall semester and will be notified based upon admission. Freshman must earn a 3.5 semester AND cumulative GPA and take 12 UIUC graded hours in the Fall semester.

In addition, all AHS Freshman Scholars will participate in a “freshman scholars experience” (AHS 199) designated as an honors activity in the fall of their freshman year. The experience will focus on research and educational themes throughout the college and on James Scholar opportunities. Students will be asked to participate in two activities and may choose from: Lab visits, invited speaker series, or an I-program (campus-based leadership programming). All students will be required to attend a reception at the beginning of the year which will pair them with a mentor, who will be a junior or senior James Scholar student that will assist them in learning about the program and provide support and guidance.
