Possible Honors Credit Learning Agreement Projects
Below are some of the projects that AHS students have completed for honors credit. While this list is not comprehensive, it provides examples of projects that have been successful learning experiences for the student and the college faculty sponsor.
Community Health
- Extensive literature review and power point presentation on topics such as:
- Health Care professions
- Chronic degenerative diseases
- Strategic plans of health care organizations
- Children and peer victimization
- Employment and disability
- Health and cross-cultural effects
- Examinations of the effects of nutritional therapy on women with ovarian cancer
Kinesiology
- Analysis of data sets through use of SPSS and other statistical data programs
- Creation of an evaluation as well as a design of rehabilitation for ever major body part at a capstone site
- Participation in the campus-wide “Kids in Chemistry” program
- Journal and evaluation of media outlets that offer exercise and physical activities
- Essays on topics such as:
- Special populations and the barriers to participate in leisure activities
- Neurological injuries in older adults and the process of OT rehabilitation
- Adherence to PT and other exercise programs
- Globalization and Sport programs
Recreation, Sport and Tourism
- Proposal/evaluation of special event programming
- Participation in Graduate level courses
- Analysis/evaluation of state wide initiatives to increase leisure activities within communities
- Tourism destination marketing
- Reaction papers related to participation in the East St. Louis Action Research Project
- A critique and reformulation of a study on gender equity in Division I NCAA administrative positions
- Effects of involvement in competitive sports by children in middle childhood
- Relationship between leisure involvement and childhood obesity
Speech and Hearing Science
- In depth study and literature review involving speech impairment and multiculturalism
- Case study on high-tech and low tech communication systems with children that have cochlear implants
- Research project on Atypical sign language development
- Administering standardized test to children sample and recording speech productions and language skills
- Assist in research on story telling and writing in English with Korean bilingual children
- Projects involving “SALT” computer software
- Paper topics:
- Social Construction on Deafness
- Language Impairments
- Stuttering
In general, project examples are usually
- Research papers (10-15 pages) or essays (length determined by agreement)
- Research for preparation of pedagogical methods and new courses or segments
- Special laboratory experiments
- Stratified opinion surveys
- Course or course unit evaluation
